Souptik De knows firsthand the feeling of confidence that comes with having a new pair of sneakers. When the now Lake Travis High School senior moved to the district in 2016 he said it was hard to adapt and make friends. But when his parents gave him a new pair of Triple Black Adidas NMDs, he got the boost he needed to get through those first few weeks.
De knows that not all families can afford new shoes, so he decided to try to fill that gap.
With the help of his best friend, Arthur Blake, he launched the Snkr Truck, a nonprofit that provides shoes to Austin youth and adults in need.
“We believe fresh footwear leads to confidence,” De said. “And we wanted to give back one pair at a time.”
Founded in summer 2018, the goal is to give back 500 pairs of new and lightly used pairs of shoes to the Austin community. To date, the group has donated over 210 pairs of shoes to children, teens and adults.
TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas - A couple of Lake Travis high school friends teamed up to start a nonprofit, The Snkr Truck, to give shoes to kids and adults in marginalized communities. “I founded the Snkr Truck in 2019 and today we've given back 265 pairs,” Souptik ‘Soupy’ De says.
Unlike most, De and his best friend and Snkr Truck associate director, Arthur Blake spent their Labor Day weekend giving back to the community.
“I've always been an avid shoe lover, I remember, I didn't have too many friends or anything when I first moved here and my parents gave me a new pair of shoes, kind of like these, and I remember how much it changed me because they gave me a lot of confidence to walk into school and be myself and not be stressed out that I didn't have anyone, that I was kind of alone," De remembers.
We hope that the next 12 months will be just as great if not better, and we could not be more exited to share this interview with you to celebrate our 1 year anniversary.
